A family story:
Five were white, Five were yellow, two were brick, one was purple. Bright purple. And that house was mine.
Maybe I should start off by telling you about my crazy parents first...
It wasn't easy growing up in a purple house...
-or-
A consipracy/spooky story:
Thirteen. Coincidence? Maybe. I don't think so. Some say that...
-or-
A persuasive story to bring about change:
What is it going to take for us to talk them into selling?? (as in hitchiker's guide to the universe, or erin brockovich, or a story like that)
-or-
A coming of age story:
There have always been thirteen houses for as long as I could remember... nothing has ever changed here. Ever. God, this town is so boring, I wish I could...
Just some random ideas, GOOD LUCK.

" I lived in the last house on the row. The neighborhood was of the old Victorian style. I hadn't thought of how long I had lived in the last house on the block till Anne Dunnaly was found dead this morning." That's just a start. Hell, I'd read what happened after that opening.

what's the subject? anything? you can make it a mystery. "then, in the lurking shadows, a figure appeared ..."
or just kinda funny "That's how my life began. with the number 13. it haunted me all my life. once, i actually escaped it, but, then it caught me, again..." and you can do this whole thing about the number 13 and all the misfoortunes that were encountered
or scary "all the houses looked the same, except that last house, number 13. it had mysterious and haunting qualities to it." and you can say things that make it mysterious. like, unknown lights flashing out of it, blah blah blah
or try suspense. "there used to be fourteen houses, but one burned down. a boy named *whatever* fell in love with a girl, *blah* but her ex burned down her house, and he swore he would get revenge. he just didn't know it would be as a ghost. because he was in that house when it burned down."
that's all i could think of. i like to write creative stories. i wrote a story last year based on the titanic. it was fun

Even though the street was a dead end it seemed to go on forever. Everyone who lived on that street were well known threw out the town. and not for good reasons............
You can just branch off of this. Tell about each family and their strange lives on the street. Weird huh?

Describe one of the houses and go into detail. Like if one house is haunted and then begin your story. Or make up a story about a person living in a mundane world describing the persons life.

Do a story where several different stories end up being connected in some way. Like in Crash, Babel or Pulp fiction. Maybe some different things happen in each home with each family and they are somehow connected.
Good luck.

and all of the occupants are part of a dinner club that sponsors the neighbors for dinner one night on a rotation so no one has to cook more than once every 13 days..........then go into menus, dinner conversations and the occupants as well as this neighborhood being a town within a town that no outsider can penetrate........focus on the good and or bad part of a close knit group such as this

The fourteenth house was burned to ashes yesterday. Four people on the dead end street are responsible. Nobody would expect them to be arsonists...
