You might get a bit more performance out of it but you'llo also be putting out a heck of a lot more pollution.

I believe Import Tuners or one of those smaller magazines did a test not too long ago just to bust the myth. The found the difference to be negligible, maybe 2-5 HP different on a 150 HP engine. I *think* they said they tested a used Civic that they were going to put an improved cat on it, so they went ahead and tested before, without, and after. Don't remember which month though, but it was mentioned in Sports Compact Car mag.

If it has a computer control system, and needs the reading from the O² sensors to keep the engine running correctly, removing the cat converter will change those readings and the back pressure, causing your engine to run very rich, and degrading both performance and mileage.

Also, just a reminder, removing a converter is a federal offense. It may or may not improve performance. Often, too little backpressure in the exhaust system will cause you to lose torque.

yes you will feel a little difference if the converter is off, especially if it is old and starting to get plugged.

Not anymore.
Now-a-days they're high flow, and have very low restriction.
