we have a mexican girl 23 years old that has been working for us for the past year. she speaks no english at all. she works 11 hours a day and is the only mexican there along with my mom and cousin. i try to converse with her to keep her from being bored but conversation is somewhat difficult. i know some spanish because i took 3 years in high school. we had some decent conversations before and i try to talk to her everyday. she only speaks when i talk to her and never talks to me. if i dont speak to her the whole day she will not talk to me. she is not a shy person. . should i just stop trying to speak to her.

You're probably the only human being she currently connects to so if you want to be good to her go one spending time and showing warmth.

As said before beign a mexican woman and not speaking english are reasons enough to make her introvert. Plus you mentioned she works 'for you' so she might feel it's not ok for her to address you without having been spoken to.

Have you tried simply telling her simple things like 'I really enjoy our chats, let me know next time we can talk' or else 'You know I really enjoy for us to chat I hope you do to'... if you drop these hints she may with time feel confident enough to initiate the conversation herself.

In any case I'm sure she enjoys you two chatting. :)

no. i think you should continue talking to her. she pobably feels very different from everyone else, since she cannot speak english. i think that she feels she cannot talk to anyone. therefore she does not try. i mean if u were in a place where everyone spoke the same language and u were the different one, i dont think u, or myslef for that matter. would get up and go talking to people when you probably feel taht they are going to laught or make fun of u because you cannot speak the language very well
well i hope i have helped u in some way :)

i guess you have to keep in mind that being in america where people are generally cruel to those who speak other languages is difficult, you need to remember she has been laughed at and made fun of because she does not speak english, try breaking the language barrier by bringing her something to drink or eat, or a small gift, and than ask her how to say this in spanish and than tell her how to say the same in english ask her about what she likes to drink/eat ... and how to say that in spanish, she probubly just feels very reserved.. try it let me know if that works out at all!~ GOOD LUCK! thanks for trying to be nice to us!~

She doesn't start the conversation because she is either scared to or because she thinks it is not her place to start the chat.
She is doing what she thinks is the right way to behave. Just keep on chatting to her and smiling at her she is not being horrible just trying not to upset anyone by talking out of place

It's nice that you talk to her - she may not talk to you because she works for you and figures that she might be out of line. Why not just ask her straight out if she enjoys talking to you, then tell her she can talk to you whenever she likes and she doesn't have to be shy or worry that you will be offended.
Some employers don't want the help to talk to them unless they are spoken to first - that may be what she is thinking in her head.

well, there isn't anything bad if you talk to her. and besides, its better to have some company. its not just benifiting you or her, your conversation benefits both of you. and try to teach her some English, too.

she won't talk to you because she probably has the whole "don't talk to a man unless he talks to you first" instilled in her.
i'm mexican; i was raised like that too, but i got over it.
