I feed almost all of my fish twice a day, what they can eat in 3-4 minutes. In my opinioin that's an excellent rule of thumb, broken only for special cases like leaving squash in a tank overnight for pleocs.

It depends on the the type of fish, size, and what you are feeding them. 2-3 times a day will be fine if you are feeding the normal staple diet but if you're feeding bloodworms or any other supplement, 2-3 times a week aside from the staple diet every other day. If you have catfish, then just add a tropical tablet before turning off the light everyday. Make sure you feed just the necessary amount and that little or no food gets to the bottom and clean the gravel at least every month.

I am cycling my tank right now and have eight zebra danios. I generally feed my fish on my way out the door for work in the morning at 8 A.M. and right about 8 P.M. Right now I have them solely on flake food while the tank is cycling and I generally take 3 or 4 large flakes and crush them up into smaller pieces (not microscopic, but small enough to fit in mouths). They are quite cute when feeding.

It depends on what type of fish you have.
When feeding fish make sure you give them extremely small amounts throughout the day, because it is more natural then one large feeding.
If you were to feed a Cichlid, you would give it half a teaspoon ever 2 hours
If you were to feed 2 goldfish, you would give it one flake and that would be enough.

Are they large or small? Meat eaters or vegetarians? Mostly it's good to feed them 3-4 times a day, just what they can eat within 3 minutes each feeding. Drop in pinchful every 10 seconds or so. Read the directions on the food package.
