On most grading scales, an 81 is a B-.

Depends on your school's grading scale, on a 10 pt scale it is, but on a 7 pt scale it is a C. Different school systems and different schools use different scales.

At my private school it's a B, but at the public schools here a B is an 85-92.

It depends if you're in a Private or Public School.
I go to Public and it's a C.
A 100-92
B 83-91
C 74-82
D 64-73
F 63-0
