Whatever you do, DO NOT OIL THE GLOVE NOW!
The oil will not help break your glove in, the oil will just mess up the baseballs. Use Neet's Foot Oil after the season to protect the leather from the dry winter air. Rub the oil into the leather with your finger tips and palms; the friction from your hand will assist in getting the oil into the leather.
To break the glove in, play catch to start the pocket. After your start to develop the pocket, place a baseball in the pocket and tie a belt, rope, or bungy cord around the glove to hold the ball in place in the new pocket.
Use the oil after the season to keep the leather soft and in good shape; my gloves are both over 30 years old and in great shape from following this plan.

You wanted a trick, here it is.
Any oil at your local sporting goods shop will work. The key is not the oil, its the pressure used to mold the ball into and through the glove pocket. You'll get that pressure from:
your butt.
Oil your glove at night before bed. Place a ball, not in the webbing, but just below it so about ten percent of the ball sticks above the "pocket." It won't close properly. Wrap the glove tightly with an old towel and put it under your bed. Sleep on it overnight.
The next day when you have time, oil the glove again, place the ball again, wrap the towel again, and sit on the glove (beneath a couch cushion is preferable) whenever you can.
Repeat for 2 nights and 2 days. Move the ball into the webbing for 2 nights and 1 day or 1 day and 2 nights. You will have a gamer.

Ok, oil it everyday until the season starts. Make sure you rub it all over the glove and really squeeze and rub hard to loosen the leather. IF THE GLOVE IS STIFF AND YOU DONT HAVE ANY TIME TO OIL IT.....than put your last two fingers (pinky and the one next to it) into the pinky finger slot in your glove. Then put the next finger in the spot next to that and then the pointer finger in the next one and your thumb where it normally goes. The only slot empty should be where you normally put your pointer finger. Doing this gives the hand more strength to close the glove. Also it allows for a deeper pocket, so its great for outfielders and corner infielders. It makes the glove fold in half almost exactly insteat of having the last three fingers or so exposed. It will feel awkward for the first week and than you will get used to it and love it. I did it on one of my gloves a few years ago and now I cant go back to normal. Im a pitcher and with my glove like that i have made it to three allstar games. 1 In little league, and two in Jnr. league.

Play catch all the time, if can't get a buddy to play catch, go to the school yard, throwing a rubber ball against a brick wall helps break your glove in, improves your fielding and improves your throwing.
Always bring two gloves to the game. One that is already broken in. In warm ups use the new glove to start breaking it in. Besides, when one of the gloves breaks a rawhide lace, you will have another glove in your bag to replace it.

It all depends on how long you want your glove to last. If you want to keep it in good condition for a long time break it in naturally (play catch with it). If you want to break it in quickly use oil but not a rubber band. You only want to have the glove closed with your hand in it. If your glove is just sitting, keep a ball in it but do not string it up. You want your glove to shape to your hand.

After you oil it, play catch. If you have no one to play catch with, go to the batting cages and catch balls instead of hitting them. Also, when you are watching TV or have nothing else to do with your hands just work the glove back and forth, opening and closing.

Use foot oil on it then place it in your oven. About 20 minutes at 250 degrees worked well for me. After removing it massage thoroughly with shaving cream! You cant beat this method!
