Kiss him goodbye, by Steam
Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)
By: Steam
(Gary DeCarlo, Dale Frashuer and Paul Leka)
1969
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye
He'll never love you, the way that I love you
'Cause if he did, no no, he wouldn't make you cry
He might be thrillin' baby but a-my love (my love, my love)
So dog-gone willin'
So kiss him (I wanna see you kiss him, wanna see you kiss him)
Go on and kiss him goodbye
Na na na na, hey hey-hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye
Listen to me now
He's never near you to comfort and cheer you
When all those sad tears are fallin' baby from your eyes
He might be thrillin' baby but a-my love (my love, my love)
So dog-gone willin'
So kiss him (I wanna see you kiss him. I wanna see you kiss him)
Go on and kiss him goodbye
Na-na na-na-na na na na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye
Hey hey-hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye [repeat many times and fade out]
ANDY RATING:
Maybe I've heard it too many times to like it and now I can't remember if I ever liked it. But it's one of the most heard songs and I love to point out to my fellow sports enthusiasts that they're cheering to a bubblegum song.
NOTES:
. . . lyrics -- such as they are -- were improvised . . . singer Gary De Carlo sang with the "group" Steam for this song only and he hasn't been heard of since . . . he should have enrolled in the Tony Burrows school of "Many One-Hit Wonders" . . . instead, he ran out on steam . . . percussive elements and the associated solo are reminiscent of Harry Nilsson's Jump In The Fire . . . the song has been listed as Na, Na, Hey, Hey, Kiss Him Goodbye and as Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) . . . don't be fooled -- it's the same song! . . . (glad I could clear that up!) . . .
