When my car is started and it is in park or i am stopped, the car starts to shake almost like its jumping. year make and model would help to give you a better answer.
but this condition can be caused by a number of thing:
vacuum leak
Idle control valve (depending on make model and year)
EGR valve
need a tune-up
bad injector
as far as the steering wheel shaking:
tire balance
out of round tire
loose or worn front end parts
loose or worn front axle bearings
worn CV joints
I've listed answers to both problems in order to check.
add more info to question and I can add more details.
based on 98 cavalier
have vaccuum hoses checked first then have EGR tested.
steering wheel shake is most commonly tire balance.

There can a couple of issues here.
When the car is parked:
1) If the engine runs smooth, but the car jumps around like you say, then the problem is most likely a broken engine mount or transmission mount.
2) If the engine runs poorly, sputtering or slowly increasing and decreasing idle, it can be one of three problems a) bad spark - check plugs, wires and distributor cap; b) poor fuel delivery - replace the fuel filter, clean injectors and/or replace the fuel pump; c) timing is off - check timing with a timing light and adjust accordingly.
When you are driving the car, any of the above issues can cause the car to run poorly. However, the vibration in the steering is going to be your tires not balanced correctly or the alignment. Also, severely worn down tires can cause this as well. Check the tires for uneven wear along the inside or outside of the treads and that can help to determine if your alignment is off.
Good luck!

ya, if the steering wheel is shaking, then you have an alignment problem or you tires need to be balanced. When your in park and the car shakes, you probably are mis-firing and you need to have both problems checked out at by a certified mechanic.

These are two different problems. Steering wheel shaking sounds like an alignment problem. Shaking car sounds like fuel delivery. Take it to a mechanic.

you might need a good tune-up, plugs wires, cap, rotor button you know, "the works" as for your steering, you may just need your tires balanced and rotated, and your chasis lubed. also have your motor mounts checked.
