Like the one guy said, its called cauliflower ear and its only coomon with the 2 locks and eighth man because the pressure from pushing their heads between two guys thats bind together is rubbing their ears in a way that forms this cauliflower ears...Scrumcaps always help for this problem.

Some players "tape" their ears to avoid the cauliflower ear, a burst blood vessel in the ear!
It cannot be avoided at times it comes with the territory!
It is some kinda of tattoo, some do have them for life, others -my brother for example- cure and go!they do not go out and get one on purpose, as for being "I'm hard", these are rugby players not FOOTBALL supporters!

The Rugby blokes from Aust and NZ they start playing rugby just after kindergarten, its a way of life.If one of their heroes wore headgear, that would be more of a reason to wear one then for personal looks. Now the game is full-on professional, their health is monitored, but to show concern over a cauliflower ear is neither here nor there.

It's a sign of strength, it's hard not to get your ears damaged in rugby during a scrum, there are head protectors, but these do not cover the ears. Anyway which man doesn't like to show off his war wounds.

I think it's hard to avoid getting your ears squashed and battered playing rugby! They could wear head guards, but that wouldn't be 'manly'.

its called a cauliflower ear. If you are a forward it is caused by rubbing of your ears when you are in the scrum .The alternative is wearing a scrum cap. But lets face it anybody wearing a scrum cap looks pretty stupid.
