i think it would depend on the type of story you're doing and what type of character Lydia happens to be.
good girl? strong? annoying? what's her background?
i happen to be a Lydia and my last name is Williams.
generic as hell.

Lydia is an old fashioned kind of name. I would use something simple like Smith or Appleton or something that sounds old fashioned and sweet and rosey.

O'lani, O'lane, Arlene, Lane, Sharon(instead of share on...say it like this :"shar own") the Israeli way to say Sharon.) Clay, Paulson, Stellar, Star, etc...get creative with your alphabet..also look up names on the net or in baby name books! have fun...I love names...and nicknames myself!

I always like to look up the meaning of words in different countries to make names for my characters (ex. "Mizu" is the Japanese word for water). It helps me describe my characters without actually "describing" them.
