do you think it will be safe for her to fly by June??? She has her heart set on going to my sisters wedding. But I don't think she should go. My dad is planing on talking to the doctor but I just wanted to get some feedback about your thoughts or feelings about this. Thank you in advance.

I know that June is a few months away still but the doctors said that it can take 6 months to a year for her to be healed all the way. I am just worried about her immune system and everything. As you can probably tell I am a worry wort. Thanks for the feedback... please keep it coming.

It may be safe for her to fly, but if she still has her colostomy bag, then she may want to be prepared for the worst should it happen. The bags can open up, or burst, or come off, which you're dealing with fecal matter and it could really stink up the whole plane.....so she'll need to carry some extra supplies with her, like baby wipes, and some extra bags, just in case. I wish you and her the best of luck.........

Honestly, it might look worse than it is....by June she should be fine to travel. Really just depends on her and how she's feeling. A few years ago, my mom went to Oregon and gave my uncle a kidney...she was on a plane home a week later. It only takes the body a short time to heal really....broken bones take the longest to heal and that's about 6 weeks....so she should be fine to go to the wedding...I wouldn't let a a little uncomfotability take away my chance of going to my daughter's wedding. If she's not completely healed by the time of the flight,,,just make sure she takes it easy...don't let her carry her own bags or anything like that...sitting on a plane isn't strenuous....:) tell you mom I hope she feels better soon.

The wedding is over 12 weeks away, there should be no reason that she could not go to the wedding. Her abdominal incision should be healed. She should be more confident with her colostomy bag.
I take care of people all of the time at home. They are completely independent within 4 to 6 weeks. The fatigue factor has resoved by then.

She should be fine by June!
My Dad had his operation in October and was out ice fishing in December.
But it depends on how your Mom heals and her comfort level with the bag. You didn't mention her age. Healing is harder for older people. And her attitude will have a lot to do with how fast she heals.
If she feels like going let her!

As long as she has no complication's after surery, and she rest's up for the trip she should be just fine. There is plenty of time for her to get used to dealing with the bag.But for sure i would consult her doctor first.
Tell he i said god's speed and i hope she has a wonderful time at the wedding if she get's the all clear to go.

if you can go to the Dr with your dad when he talks to him that way you will understand what is going on with your mom and if she has any limitations. i think if the Dr says OK and she is up for it she should go. June is still more than 2 months away.

sure if the incision has healed before the flight there is no reason she can not go. i do recommend learning how to help her with the bag i know it van be embarrassing for her so just let her know that you can help if needed and that will help her cope with the change.

That depends entirely on why she needed the surgery. If she had only an obstruction, she could be fine my June. If the problem was successfully taken care of, she will be fine.

yes ; there are many people who have had to have a bag and most you wouldn't know; this is a difficult thing so be patient with Mom and show her all the love that you can ; she will need it.
