I'm contacting a school to see if they have volunteer postions but am not entirely sure how i should end the message. I would greatly appreciate your opinions. (For privacy reason i blocked out the real names and places)

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is XXXXX and I am a former student of XXXX Jr. High. I attended XXXX from the Fall of 1998 to the Spring of 2001 and was in the Honors Program when it was first instituted in the 2000-2001 school year. I am currently in my second year at ---- in the Arts/Education Transfer Program. My intention is to transfer this Fall into the Secondary Education Program at the University -----. My goal is to major in English and minor in social studies.

I was wondering if there were any volunteer opportunities available at the school starting mid to late April until the end of June. I would like to gain some experience prior to entering my first field placement which I anticipate will be this fall.

I would change the "I was wondering", it sounds a bit weak.
Maybe change it to "I would like to be considered for any volunteer opportunities...."
End it with something like. "I am available for interview at your earliest convenience. Thank you in advance, yours faithfully, "

Instead of saying "I was wondering if there were...." Use "I am interested in any...."

End with something along the lines of:

I look forward to hearing from you. You may contact me at (phone number). Thank you in advance for this opportunity.

Change the end to be less passive and more persuasive. Tell them why they should give you the chance instead of asking. It works.
