I think that most insurances don't cover this procedure as it is not medically necessary. I would call your insurance and talk to them that's the best thing you could do. And don't listen to all these other bafoons that tell you not to do it, that's just not answering the question. And just to get this right, most places do use anesthic these days because most doctors and hospitals are all for pain relief and you can also request it. These people that are against it sometimes just don't have thier info correct!

Whether or not you choose to have your future son circumsized is COMPLETELY up to you and the baby's father (if he is in the picture)... People's opinions about this matter should not be included in their answer because you didn't ask for opinions... Here is what the Mainecare booket says:
45.05-2 Newborn Infants

MaineCare reimburses for services provided to newborn infants of MaineCare mothers during the time the mother is hospitalized. MaineCare will pay for services to the newborn after the mother is discharged, if these services are certified by the physician as being medically necessary and the infant is MaineCare eligible.

If you still have any questions (because I know this paragraph doesnt tell you much) you can call the 1-800 # for MaineCare Mon-Fri 8am-5pm... the # is: 1-800-321-5557 and talk to someone there. Dr's are not always 100% aware of all the in's & out's of govenment programs so I would call the # tomorrow to make sure... And if ANY hospital takes # for a procedure before it is performed that just ins't right!!! You need to call the billing office and set up a payment plan with them if you cannot afford the whole amount at once.. They are pretty good about that stuff.. If you pay them $30-$50 a month until it is paid off they are pretty happy and after a few months you can even go to the billing office and get the amt reduced to something you can pay in full sometimes! I have heard of this happening several times :-) I hope this all helps!!!!!

Just to correct the misinformation here, this is what the American Academy of Pediatrics says about circumcision in their policy statement:

Existing scientific evidence demonstrates potential medical benefits of newborn male circumcision; however, these data are not sufficient to recommend routine neonatal circumcision. In circumstances in which there are potential benefits and risks, yet the procedure is not essential to the child's current well-being, parents should determine what is in the best interest of the child. To make an informed choice, parents of all male infants should be given accurate and unbiased information and be provided the opportunity to discuss this decision. If a decision for circumcision is made, procedural analgesia should be provided.

Parents are encouraged to make an informed choice based on the benefits and risks. They do not come down on one side or the other of this issue.

I do not know if Mainecare covers circumcision or not.
The back of your card should have a 1-800 number to call. They can tell you whether it is covered and if you need prior-authorization for it.

How about you respect your son enough to let him make the decision. The process can be done at ANY age. There is no reason to force the permanent cosmetic change on him. Wait until HE can consent and then perform the operation on HIS penis if HE wants to.

not alot of insurances cover the circumcision, but you shouldn't have to have the money till the actual procedure. which is about 1 week after the baby is born.

Routine circumcision is a medically unnecessary procedure and is akin to female genital mutilation. The American Academy of Pediatrics no longer supports the procedure and a lot of insurance companies will no longer cover it. You should give it some serious thought. Your son could always choose it later for himself, but once it is done, you cannot undo it.

If it is medicaid then I would say so. I have MassHealth and they paid for my son to have it done.

I dont' know, but you could concider not circumcising him. It is a painful, surgical procedure, often done without anesthetic, and has no useful purpose.
