I just realized the name of it, from the person who posted about the Christmas song. It's Hark How the Bells.

This is tough to do without knowing the notes involved.

The pattern sounds similar to the title tune on the old cartoon "Christmas Comes But Once a Year":

Christmas comes but once a year!
Now it's here! Now it's here!
Christmas comes but once a year!
Tra-la-la-la-la!

The tune is similar to "Buffalo Gals" but the pattern is slightly different:

Buffalo gals, won't you come out tonight?
(Won't you) Come out tonight, (won't you) come out tonight?
Buffalo gals, won't you come out tonight,
And dance by the light of the moon?

(This song was prominently featured in the film It's a Wonderful Life.)

There's also "Camptown Races", but the second line is dramatically different. (Doo-dah! Doo-dah!)

Addedum: I've also thought of "Ach du lieber Augustine" (or ""Oh du lieber Augustin"), which shares a tune with "Did You Ever See a Lassie".

Questioner, if you're thinking of "Carol of the Bells", your pattern of "do's" is way off. It would look more like this:

Do!--do do do. Do!--do do do.
Do!--do do do. Do!--do do do.
(Do, do; do, do. Do, do; do, do.)
Do-do-do-do-do-do, do do do do.
Do-do-do-do-do-do, do do do do.

Anyway, if I helped you get the right answer, I'm glad to be of assistance!

Remade by Taco in the 80's. This is the version you are probably thinking of. Hope this is right!

Yeah - I heard that one in B flat, it goes dumdedumdumdedumdumdededumdumdum, and on for another fourteen bars. I though it was a bit of a dumb song.
