It is hard in this day and age for employers to make rules that include homosexuality with Republican and their family values campaign. In SC (where I live) homosexuals are not protected under the law unless it is a federal institution. A case can be made that homosexuals are protected under the Equal Opportunity.
As I said before, the GBLT community needs to get out and vote and refuse to go into businesses that are not "gay friendly".
Good luck

what exactly is the question?
More and more companies are including sexual orientation is their non-discrimination policies, bringing gays and lesbians into the discussion of workforce diversity, and providing domestic partnship benefits. But rarely is this required by law.
Unfortunately, in the majority of states, sexual orientation is not a protected category in terms of employment discrimination. It is perfectly legal in most states for an employer to fire someone solely because they are gay. Federal law also gives no protection unless the discrimation can be considered to be based upon gender stereotypes (i.e. a woman not being feminine enough).

Most companies are doing the "politically correct" thing and love to boast how they have a zero tolerance policy for homophobia and discrimination. Of course, when it comes to actually enforcing such a policy, employers tend to turn a blind eye to the sorts of things that go on.
I work for a branch of the federal government. One day I was called a "fawking f@g". I filed a complaint and was informed that since my life was not in danger I had no reason to object to the incident.

Where I work they sealed the "glory holes" in the men's room.
-Just kidding-
I work in sales w/ 1 female and 35 men, 2 openly gay staffers (assistants). The woman hears more insults than anything. In fact I've never heard anyone say something insulting to the 2 aides. At least not in public. I'ts kinds screwed up, we men are so afraid to "not act macho" in front of other guys. I don't care, gay or not, work shouldn't have to be a locker room.

They're putting in policies that allow for equal opportunities in the workplace. If you want to look at a bunch of facts and figures HRC has bunch in their workplace section.

Sexual orientation in the workplace is irrelevant. It's the responsibility of the the "gay employee" to keep his sexual preference to himself/herself. If a company try's to fire a homosexual purely based on "sexual orientation"...the company will lose a battle in court.

very little...they only do what they are forced to, unless the company has key personnel who are gay. Sorry we still have a long way to go to get equity!
