I suspect that the 1844 large cent spent most of it's time in the east, probably the northeast but some went south. There were 2,398,752 minted. Most things at this time, here happening far away from the mint in Philadelphia. There had been a financial panic a few years earlier. Things were tight, so the cent may not have traveled far. I guess things at the mint were some what screwed up, for they minted a 1844, 44 over 81. Someone may have had a little too much and got the number punches mixed up or looked at it wrong. So as for historic value it maybe lacking behind more famous dates. The coin lists at $14 in grade good to $38 in extremely fine, more if in uncirculated grades. prices are about what a dealer would pay.
