I have a guitar that was damaged in transit - the case came open and the guitar ended up on van floor. There are a couple of deep gouges down to the wood but the underlying rosewood is not touched. Is there any way to repair the clear varnish finish without stripping the entire instrument and re-varnishing?

you can repair it yourself by french polishing it . you can by a proprietary DIY Material but you can find this in some paint shops under the name of garnet polish, button polish, white polish or transparent polish. they are all shellac based , just in various colours
