I think it is likely that I would. The gray shadow face looks masculine to me so I subconsciously assume that all the "avatarless" people out there are males when logically I know this isn't true!!

Treat them the same, there's no reason not to. A question is a question whether it comes from a male or a female, or an "it".

I treat both genders as equals, now age is a different story, If I know someone is vary young then I answer differently. "Out of respect."
