Many people say dogs for some reason. Why not cats?

I have two cats and a dog.. I like them both :) just depends what you want out of your pet. if you like taking walks and having a buddy to follow youa round then dogs are great, if you just want a friend that takes very little care and will sometimes shun you for no aparent reason, cats are for you :)
personally, I love themall.. I will one day own my own animal shelter with a no killing policy so I hafta love themall :) and I do.
so that doesn't really answer your question, but i choose both :)

Cats are easier for some of us, dogs easier for others. Any animal is what you put into the relationship. Cats can be harder for some people to relate to. Cats can be "fussier", dogs are somewhat more easy going.

I've always had cats, and have 2 cats right now. But I have had one Sheltie and I loved her so much. She got along well with my cat. If we move where we have more room, I'll have one again some day. I choose BOTH.

Like others have said, it really depends upon you.

If you're like me, you'll see good in both.

By the way, our male cat does demand attention, is cuddly, is a real character. Our female is quieter, and a real funny cat when she plays. I take them into our back yard on harnesses for a treat, but they are indoor cats.

It could depend upon whether you own or rent a house, or an apartment. Some landlords prefer cats, some dogs.
Either way, pets can help people live longer, healthier lives.

Both have their good points, personally I have both dogs and cats and would rather stay that way.
I can't/won't have the dogs on the bed - they are GSD's and leave no room for me, cats get in/on the bed no problem they fit round me and don't hog all the duvet.
dogs don't claw the furniture
cats don't (usually) raid the bin
dogs don't crap behind/under furniture
cats don't insist on going in the car everywhere (or else chew their butt off in frustration at being left)
dogs don't decide to have a mad half hour and do wall of death around the house at 2am
cats don't howl because they can see the moon through the window
dogs don't shred curtains
cats don't terrorise the window cleaner

Cats are wonderful companions and are truly equals with their caregiver. Unlike dogs they are completely self-reliant provided their litterbox is changed every week and their food and water refreshed every other day. If they are outdoor cats they are able to show off their true independence and require no care whatsoever (unless you are living in the city and then take pity on the poor cat in terms of food).
I completely disagree that cats are unaffectiate, they simply need to be handled alot by their owners. They more you pet, play and sit with them, they more they realize they are missing out by not being with you. Basically, you get back what you give.
They are clinically proven to restore the health of those they share affection with ( petting a cat lowers heart rate, cholesteral and if they are purring, heals wounds, burns and breaks 25% faster!!) In tests with coma patients, a cat's lick vs a dog's lick on a patient's hand had 35% increase in positive brain wave readings. And if that isn't cool enough, cats were worshipped once by no less then 149 different cultures over the span of human existence!!

Well I love dogs because of their loyalty and that they like to play and they are fun. I prefer dogs.

For some reason, cats are not always sweet and playful. A couple of my friends have had moody and whiny cats who never want to play and they also bite children and they are spoiled rotten. My mother in law's cat is crazy and will bite you for even trying to pet her. These animals are all spoiled and treated well and not abused.

Of course another friend of mine did have a very sweet and cute cat that would play sometimes and was very sweet and loved to be pet all the time. A cat like that I could grow to love!

I still think dogs are better friends and playmates MOST of the time :-) I do think cats can sometimes be this way but you have to get lucky or you may get a whiny cat that doesn't like interaction!

Cats! Dogs just sleep all the time and are boring. Cats are a constant source of entertainment. Mine play practical jokes on me. Like one time they tied my shoelaces together while I was reading. One time they sent a letter to the editor with all sorts of vulgarities and racial slurs, and signed my name to it. Another time, when my girlfriend slept over, they stole her panties and ran them up a flag pole! Boy was she pissed! Sometimes they get on my Y!A account and answer questions, pretending to be me.

I should add: cats are just (if not more) likable and trainable as dogs. The reason behind the fallacy about "dogs are man's best friend", while cats are aloof, and unfriendly, is very simple: with a dog, you can play a few mean tricks on them now and then, and they will forgive you. NOT WITH CATS! the only mean thing you should ever do to a cat, is shoot it with a squirt gun if it misbehaves. Cats generalize behavior to all humans, so if you have kids that drag it along by the tail, it will become distant and hostile, because it thinks all humans will drag it by the tail. All it takes for cats to be as (I mean more) friendly than dogs is to treat them as kindly and gently as you would a human infant!

I've had some cats that would go for walks on a leash, and if I took the leash off, would follow me anywhere! I even taught them to "heel" and "rollover."

Meow! Meow ! Meow!

Is Gallon ever going to be PISSED when he discovers! this!! (hee hee hee)

Sincerely.

many do not like cats because they think they are lazy and waste of money. That isn't true. With simple training as a baby, a cat can learn just as much as a dog. Cats can be trained to like water too!

The only factor with cats is they like to do their own thing sometimes, and may ignore you... don't worry though, it doesn't last long.they will snuggle with you. sleep by you, and
is fun!

Dogs arn't so bad, either though. Just pick what you feelis best. Go by pros. and cons.

I think a person would probably have a dog, because people may not get to admire your cat as much, because they may be allergic. And when your cat is gone (don't mean to be mean), you may form allergies to cats. That cannot happen with dogs.

CATS!!! My reasoning is fairly simple, if you want to go on a short trip for a weekend, you don't have to worry about the cat. Just leave some food out for it and a potty box and you're good to go. With Dogs you have to take them out or board them, or have someone babysit them.
