Being human means loving someone to the point of giving your life for someone else so they might live. I have never heard of an animal(not saying it hasn't happened)to give their life to save the life of another. I do, however, know of several instances were someone has laid down his life to save the life of another person. Per example: Jesus Christ, who made the ultimate sacrifice for you, me and everyone else. This is why the military says of a soldier, sailor, or whatever, who died, gave the ultimate sacrifice.

To be human just means to have the genetic makeup that distinguishes us from other species.
If you mean "What does it mean to be a person?", that is a very controversial question, but I think it mostly has to do with a being's ability to think at high cognitive levels (like humans, as opposed to squirrels or tigers). If aliens were to land on earth, and had the ability to communicate with one another in a clear and comprehensible way, use tools to do things, and problem-solve, I would be hard pressed to deny that they are persons, even though they wouldn't be human.

I would say that to be human is to make mistakes and often have such ignorance and pride that we either cannot or will not recognize them. On an emotional level, being human, in my opinion, means making the mistake of letting your emotions control too much of your life.

Can you really define human? We are humans, so I would define human as - something living taking up space here on earth.

According to Philip K Dick in the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, empathy is what makes us human. However, that doesnt explain suicide bombers very well, does it?

Educated Animals. We all retain the wilder side of our ancestors, but we would like to think that we, as a race, are working toward an enlightened future.

human means people, like me and you and all the rest of people. Human means being yourself, and acting like you self also. Humans have the ability to make choices.
