Different long-term life goals, such as having/not having children, wanting/not wanting to get married, wanting/not wanting to live abroad, one being religious and the other hating church, etc. It's better to break up in the beginning of the relationship than to wait years and then find out that the other person still has not changed his mind about what he wants, and you wasted all that time wishing that he would change someday.

I was told this by a friend of mine. At first I thought it was ridiculous. However, upon further reflection, I believe it's really important... especially if you want this new relationship to turn into something serious and long-term.

What is it? Sexual compatibility! Being unsatisfied (either party) will eventually lead t problems down the road.

If I dated a man who had kids and an ex wife, that would be a deal breaker for me.

The deal breaker for me would be poor hygiene. Nothing in the world turns me off faster.

This biggest for me would be not sharing my sense of humor. If you can't laugh at the same stuff now, you'd be pretty bored together in the long run.

I have actually decided not to date a guy because he didn't laugh when I quoted the Chuck Norris Fact Generator.

Of course you are right about the drugs, abuse, etc. But here's one thing people don't think about until too late:
A Mama's boy because his mother will be a meddler because she can't help it! He's always let her be!
