I was just wondering if anyone might now what my chances are on having twins. My mom is a twin and my cousin had twins. so twins run in the family i assume. My cousin is a boy though. does it only run in the women or does it matter the backround on twins? i hope the last sentence made sense. I am not pregnant yet but my husband and i are trying. I thought about that and was just wondering if anyone might have an idea.

I have 16 month old twins(girl/boy). My husbands mom was a twin (boy/girl) but the boy died at birth. I have twins on my side of the family also. My dads side it was 3 generations back and on my moms side it was 5 generations back. My twins was my first successful pregnancy. I had 3 MC before that but it was only one on each pregnancy.
Sounds like you have a good chance. Good Luck and what ever maybe the outcome I wish you the best.

Thats a very good question!!!

I mean I am a twin A (I was born first) and my brother was 5 mintues after me. My brother died when he was 9 days old (August 3, 1972)

Twins run in my family...my mom's aunt had a set, then my mom and now NO-ONE since my mom had my brother & I has had twins...I am 8 weeks pregnant with my second child and I haven't had my ultrasound YET...I'm wondering the same thing.

Now I read somewhere that twins that are faternal the girl was most likely to have twins..now if that were true I should be pregnant with twins right now...cuz I didn't happen the first time (my son is now 6)

Good Luck!

It makes a difference whether or not twins in your family are identical, or fraternal. Fraternal twins happen more often in older women, and identicals happen most often in younger or older mothers...not so much in middle of the road moms.

Identical twins are more a mystery. They don't know if it's something in the sperm, or in the egg that causes the single egg to split. They think identicals MAY happen because in a very young mom, or in a mom over age 35...the egg cell walls are more fragile and split easier. Fraternal twins are definitely due to the mother, since she must drop 2 eggs at a time to cause this to happen.

Either way, if twins run in your family, you're more likely to have them. I am an identical twin myself, but we're the only twins since the 1800's in the family tree...and the only identicals EVER recorded. Heck, they say if twins are going to run in your family...they have to start somewhere! LOL!

If the twins in your family are fraternal, then yes you can say that it runs in the family. Fraternal twins happens from hyper-ovulation which is when two eggs release from your ovaries. It may be the same ovary or both. Identical twins is a rare situation and that depends all on the egg and what it decides to do. Identical twins just means that the egg divided into two.

Based on what I have heard, you have a really high chance of conceiving twin, I have heard that it is carried by females and that it skips a generation, so with your mother being a twin, and you not being one, you are likely able have twins once you conceive, I hope this helps and good luck to you.
