1. Have a cell phone, keep it with you at all times, fully charged.
2. Let someone know if you are going to be traveling to an unknown area, and when you should be back.
3. Learn how to shoot a gun, and keep a handgun at home
4. Keep an emergency road kit in the trunk of your car ( spare tire, jack, reflectors, flash light, bottled water, batteries )
5. Pay attention to your surroundings, trust your gut instinct.

Get a permit to carry a handgun
Carry some pepperspray or something similiar
Travel with friends and never travel alone.
