Many UK universities ask for a good honours degree in order to follow with a MA. Do they refer to a first, second or third-class degree? And what is a "relevant field or subject"? Which are the relevant ones? :-S HELP!

1st or 2:1 in the subject most relevant to the job you're going for

if you want to do an MA in Heritage Management: a geography, archaeology or environment management degree would be 'relevant' whereas a chemistry degree would not. a 2.2 might get you in if there are spare places but generally a 3 wouldn't & without honours forget it

A first or a 2:1 in the same area that you are going to study. So for energy studies you would need a first or a 2:1 in chemistry (eg for petrochemical or green fuel study) , physics/engineering (for design of wind / solar collectors and the like) , mathematics or economics (for cost benefit analysis and social impact studies) for example. The actual first degree subject has to closely connected the the MA subject.

1st or good 2:1 in the area in which you wish to study for an MA.
