Best way to install new tail light lenses and prevent leaks?

I have a '77 Chevy Nova I'm restoring, just got some nice tail light lenses.. How can I make sure they won't leak?

Put in a new gasket when you replace them.

before you install the lenses,take some clear silicone and run it around the surface.
