yeah you need the expansion pack.
but it's worth it!!!
good luck and you'll need alot of "holy" spells

Yes, the original is required. But you can't even buy the expansion without the original game anymore now anyway.
Go to Walmart and get the "Diablo Battle Chest". It has Diablo, Diablo 2, and the expansion. PLus some extras for like $20.00.
You can also go out to some websites that offer hacks that will allow you to play the game WITHOUT the CD, but you'll still need a CD-key in order to make it work. And if you use a hacked one you won't be able to play online.
If it's a randomly generated one and not one off a website.. then you might get online but doubtful if you'll be able to play for long before you got banned anyway..

Yes, u need to get both an expansion pack just opens and unlocks more things like Example the sims u would buy the expansion pack so that u could be able to choose different outfits cars, etc. I hope this helps :)
