You're looking at it the wrong way. Tobacco should not be used by anyone. Since it IS used by people and the government thinks you should not use it, those who use it are penalized through the taxes on the tobacco products. Those taxes fund government programs just like other taxes.

Everything is poisonous, even water if taken in a great enough quantity. The problem isn't tobacco, the problem is that tobacco manufacturers add harmful and addictive chemicals to their product; may they all burn in he*l.

Education is not such a good thing ether. We are the most educated country in the world and have almost the highest number of people that are not working! Notice I didn't say unemployed because people that are long term without a job fall out of the system and are not counted.

People for the most part are morons. Legalize pot, tax the he*l out of it to pay for social services and extended unemployment. Get rid of half the folks in prison, half the cops and take away dealers profits. Give the farmers something that they can grow easily that there will always be a market for. Use the "leavins" to make paper out of and save 10 thousand acres of forests a year. No...that will never happen.

I thinks it's important to question who you are referring to when you say "people" versus when you say "they". Yes there are many people who say that one should not use tobacco products but I doubt that these same people are the one's who "like people to use" the products. Also, very few if any would justify using tobacco to pay for education, unless you own a tobacco company and have kids to support or you're not going to quit anyway and are using this reason as a lame excuse to continue.

I hope this clears it up for you.

Your question is difficult to follow.

It seems like you are asking how people can say tobacco is bad for your health, when so much money from the sale (and/or taxation) of tobacco ends up in the education system.

One has nothing to do with the other.

You must be referring to the fact that, while tobacco use is discouraged for health reasons, the products themselves are legally sold and are subject to steep taxes in some states. The money collected from taxes on sales of this unhealthy product may be used for purposes such as education, which you have mentioned. Some states claim to use the tax revenue collected for health care expenditures or health education such as "quit smoking" campaigns. Others do not. Some consider it foolish to depend for support on a tax that is being collected on sale of a product that the taxing body has deemed dangerous and unhealthy. The states have a vested interest in keeping the sales level of tobacco high because they depend on the tax revenue from sales to support important programs such as education. Really stupid in my opinion..

Who is they? Let us make it clear, the taxes from tobacco are a very slight part of the cost of education. I think you may be referring to school anti smoking lessons. Tobacco does pay, in part, for some anti smoking programs in schools. Furthermore the programs are working, smoking among kids is much reduced since the schools have been educating re health and use of this weed.

Everyone has bad habits. Many of those habits are FAR worse than smoking. Anyone who wants to ban tobacco is a hypocrite. Driving to work one day causes more harmful pollution than a smoker causes ALL MONTH.

Health care costs cannot be tied to smokers either. Health care costs have steadily gone UP while the number of smokers has declined. There is no connection.
