we have a mexican girl 23 years old that has been working for us for the past year. she speaks no english at all. she works 11 hours a day and is the only mexican there along with my mom and cousin. i try to converse with her to keep her from being bored but conversation is somewhat difficult. i know some spanish because i took 3 years in high school. we had some decent conversations before and i try to talk to her everyday. she only speaks when i talk to her and never talks to me. if i dont speak to her the whole day she will not talk to me. she is not a shy person. . should i just stop trying to speak to her.

You know what, I have a question back like this. Is she speak English very well. If she does, may be because she doesn't like you that much to talk to you everyday. Make an effort, ask her to go to the coffee shop, or to the movie. You can buy a book named " 1000 questions to know everybody" and get the ideas what you should talk to her about. If she didn't speak English very well, she might be scared that what would happen if she talked you but you could not understand.
Good luck!

No, but maybe she is embarrassed because she cant speak English well so maybe you should try to talk to her in English, then teach her about what you said, sooo she will learn English and talk to u more often.

She probably feels uncomfortable - maybe even embarrassed by her English. Don't stop trying to communicate.

If you enjoy her conversation I say keep on keeping on. But if it's becoming bothersome to you then don't worry about it, she must be used to the quiet.
