The age of consent in Louisiana is 17, I want to know is it ok for me to date a 24 year old. If not, what charges can my boyfriend be charged with. If both people are over the age of consent, then that's what matters. It's when one person is under the age of consent that statutory rape laws come into effect.
And a person cannot be charged with statutory rape for just talking to or socializing with someone else, regardless of age. Note, however, that different states define "sexual conduct" differently, so be careful to find out what the legal lines are before you try doing "everything but"....

If the age of consent in your state is 17, then that's when it's legal to have a sexual relationship with anyone else who's legal. "Hanging out" is not a sexual relationship.
