If you're in a cable area (ie. if you can get TV from them) then the Virgin phone line is completely separate from BT, and you can't run other broadband providers through the phone line. If you're not in a cable area, then yes, it does go on the BT line. But they do bundle that with the broadband.
There's a postcode checker here:

I'm guessing it is still the same . . .
I have NTL what Virgin Phone used to be andthe phone line is different your BT Landline gets cut off so you only pay for Virgin but you no longer have a BT landline so I don't think you can have AOL etc because you need a BT landline for most of these and when I say your BT land line is cut off they litterally cut the cable to connect the NTL phone line to you present telephone outlets.

Virgin provide their own phone line and bill you for rental and calls. If you want to take your current BT number across to virgin, you will need to call them and give them your BT account number - they will then do the cancellation of your BT number and the port across - however it will take a minimum of 7 days.

No.
Virgin Media is a rebranding of NTL, the cable company with the worst customer service on the planet.
1. Get a freeview box (one off payment).
2. Get a cheap broadband contract (shop around online).
3. BT phone.

They put a cable to your home and it all runs through that, you need to cancel your BT contract but you can keep your number if you want. I've been with Telewest (virgin ) for years and its a good service, apart from the current row with Sky and losing a few channels.

No VM is cable. You have to cancel your BT contract and VM will install a new line in your house. Your Internet will be through them also.
I think this is best beacause no one will hassle you to change your phone company and if they do you can just say "i'm on cable" and they go away!
