I think my hermit crab just died a cple. days ago. I thought it was changing its shell cause it came out but it hasn't moved and some sites say that hermit crabs dont move when there changing shells. It looks like its just sleeping cuase it has normal color and it doesn't smell even though it hasnt moved in a couple of days.
And i dont want to touch it cause sites say that there very senstive at this point. But i dont want to like get rid of it in case it is still alive. I sprayed it with water and it didn't move. And it looks like it standing getting ready to move but it jsut doesnt move. Youd think if a hermit crab was dead it would be on its side and its feet would be curled up tightly but its not!

Plz. Help!!!

I love hermit crabs I have a bunch of them. they are all alive at the moment but when you have about 20 of them like I do some of them are bound to die. yes hermit crabs are EXTREAMLY sensitive when they are multing but it's ok if you move him around slightly. just enough to see if he's still alive. don't pick him up ar anything just a gental nudge with the pointing finger will do.

when hermit crabs die they will remain the same color. it's hard to tell if they are alive or dead sometimes. but if he hasn't moved for a couple of days like what you said then you might be able to tell if he's dead by smelling around him. hermit crabs will stink really bad when they die.

I have hermit crabs that change shells all the time and they sometimes will climb out of their shells and then die. it's sad but it happens.

do you have more hermit crabs? this could be a reason why he died they are very social animals and they need more hermit crabs in order to be healthy and happy. if you don't have any other crabs then they live a short and lonely life.

if you do have more hermit crabs, then it could have died because of the other hermit crabs picking at him for his shell. it's rare but it happens.

Can you see the crabs abdomine? Or just it's legs back and head?

If you smell the crab and it smells like rotting fish it's dead. If you smell the crab and it smells similar to iodine then it's molting.

Even though you know it's out of the shell. I'd still check all your shells for a freshly molted crab. You wouldn't be the first person to think the perfect exo was their dead crab, only to find out later it was the exo from a surface molt.

are you sure its not just shed? my crab sheds and it fooled me a few times they are soft after shedding and like to hide in their shell until they get harder bodies. check inside all the shells and see if he is in one of them
