Your friend is right. My husband is nothing like I thought I would end up with but he is the absolute perfect person for me. We all want cheesecake but we need broccoli, you know? Do what's best for you and your future. Remember, looks fade but friendships don't. Marry someone you never get tired of being around and can't wait to see. I love coming home everyday to my sweet husband and am very lucky I didn't marry the good-looking, bad boy that I always loved dating. :)

From my own experience, most of the men I casually dated were not the men I would consider marrying. At times, I have dated guys just for fun; they were obviously not "husband material" - but I didn't feel like every guy I went out with needed to be. However, guys whom I considered as potential mates all had some traits in common - they were intelligent, successful, respectful, independent, and perhaps a bit quirky. The man I'm married to now is the husband I both needed and wanted. I couldn't have asked for a better match.

This is true to the hilt!! I married a great man who is reliable, stable, responsible and truly kind and caring -- yet in my early twenties I wanted the bad boy, the wild one who liked to party and just have fun. I would've never expected settling down with someone so amazing...but I'm so glad I did.

You have a wise friend. My husband is the exact opposite of the type I dated. I am so thankful that I chose him, even after 10 yrs, I am madly in love.

I think your friend is VERY right, because alot of times, the guys that women feel that those guys are not the type they would have normally dated, and some of those guys that they wouldn't have thought about when younger are some of the better guys who treat them better and are not selfish, but put their wives long before themselves.

imho, I agree with the other responses.
One of the challenges is to understand yourself enough to know where your personality is strong and weak.
I will link to a site that was good food for thought...
