His suspension is a MINIMUM of 25 games. Gary Bettman can continue that as long as he feels necessary. Personally, I don't think it's a long enough suspension either. Both he and Bertuzzi should just be out of the league. The NHL is having enough problems with attendance and ratings. They don't need goons right now.

I agree with oni_link_04
Stick swinging and sucker punches need to stop NOW, and until the NHL shows some guts and makes an example of somebody, they are sending a message that this is OK to do and it is part of Hockey. Well maybe there are some Hockey fans that think so, but not I.
Someone is liable to get Killed (as if it isn't enough that Steve Moore will never play again), just because it hasn't happened do not be deceived into thinking it CAN'T.
And enough with the "This is a Grown Man's sport, these people know this". They do NOT, by virtue of playing the sport, agree to have sticks swung at their head!!!!!!
And if there weren't more serious suspensions in other incidents, that does not make the "slap on the wrist" the correct action here either.
Nor does the fact that nobody was hurt THIS time justify it either.
For the good of the sport, this needs to STOP. NOW. LIFE SUSPENSIONS FOR ALL McSORLEYS, BERTUZZIS, AND SIMONS.

It was enough. Let's face it, with Simon being a free agent at the end of the year, he may not get signed by another team next year. Even if he does get signed, the league, his teammates, fans, and opponents are going to view him differently.
Before the stick incident, he was known as a tough guy that stood-up for his teammates. From now on, he'll just be known for his hit on Hollweg. I think even if he only got a slap on the wrist, he has committed career suicide.
If the Isles go deep in the playoffs, I THINK Simon will be able to return. The suspension applies to the first 25 games the Isles will play from here on in.

i'm an islanders fan and i dont think simon should play even if the islanders get deep into the playoffs. the reason why is because doing something like what he did isnt exactly what you'd call a good player. he should have been more careful and he should have controlled is emotions instead of doing such a dirty play.

Keep your eye on the ball. Your question is irrelevant because the Islanders won't make it out of the first round. Don't waste your time worrying about Simon. Start thinking about next year.

1 of thses answers before mine says, 25 games is the limit, BUT, I think as soon as I saw it, I was watching the game, when it happened, & right off the bat, be abolished, from hockey, altogether, I said to my husband, it is just like a kick with a skate, it was a weapon, even though he apoligized, later, & showed remorris, the hockey stick/s are not made of wood hardly anymore, & that stick that was used, could have snapped, had a point, on the broken end/s, & could have puntured, into the body anywhere, it is awful.
