i often find this question hard to answer because players play different positions and do different things and thus make them important for different reasons. so in saying so im giving my starting 5 of best nba players.
if i had to say one player, right now i would say Dirk and its simply because he is the best player on the best team in the competition. i know there are more talented athletic players around, but we cant push off what Dirk has done this year. its been amazing!!!!
C - Yao: his time has now come. this year he has really shown what he can do and i think that mantle of best C in the NBA is now getting more and more out of Shaq's hands. the stats speak for themselves!!!
PF - Dirk: he shoots the ball over 50% from the field, around 40% from the 3 point line and over 90% from the FT line. he gets nearly 10 boards to go with a few dimes a game. he is really transofmring himself this year into the most dangerous PF. lets also remember, hes a 7 footer which makes it hard to defend him.
SF - Lebron: he can do just about everything on the court. the only knock on him would be his inability to continusouly be a clutch performer
SG - Kobe. has shown maturity and leadership this year. he is the only reason the Lakers arent at the bottom of the West. he is now passing up shots and making the sacrifices for the team. a true winner now. despite everyone hating on him (and i was one of them!!), his stats this year really show a difference
PG - Nash. fast, can shoot, can make the crucial play to tip the momentum.....2 MVP awards after the ago of 30. he is really the motor that runs a high powered offensive team. true signs of a PG. everyone knocks him and thats fine, but how many PG's lately have averaged over 10 assists? not too many at all
hard choices but to me, this is my opinion

Hate him or love him Kobe is the best player in the NBA. He is the most versatile scorer in the NBA as well as a 7-time All-Defensive 1st team player. No one can dominate both ends of the floor like Kobe

Aww c'mon STEVE NASH! 2 time MVP, in a row might I add! You Know what kind of company he's in? MJ, Magic, Larry Bird, the list goes on, but not that far it is a select group of the BEST players ever! and when he wins it this year he will be in a group of 5 players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he's the man!
