Yes. If you are an attorney, you can do your job to the best of your ability. You can be honest, cordial and prepared. You can try and erase this stereotype by setting a good example. But as we know from other areas of society, stereotypes can live on for hundreds of years.

Its very funny how people bash lawyers until they run into a problem and the first person they contact is a lawyer. That being said, all lawyer are governed by a code of ethics and while a few may break those rules the rest are good, looyal and honest servants.

I didn't realize their reputation as liars needed salvaging. I did hear that in some places in the northeast this winter it got so cold that the lawyers had their hands in their own pockets.

The problem is the entire profession is being judged based on the actions of individuals.

The rules of professional conduct for attorneys required candor, honesty, and integrity. Lying, especially in court, is grounds for disbarment.

The problem is, too many lawyers break these rules and get away with it. Which gives the entire profession a bad name.

The way to fix the problem is to enforce the rules.

as much criticism lawyers get about being...well lawyers they are one of the first lines of defense against a tyrannical govt.

as greasy as lawyers can be at the heart of it they are the ones who help average citizens who know very little about law defend themselves against the government who well...makes the law.

without them it would be way too easy for a govt. to abuse it's power over the people.
