Here is a list of jobs you can get with a B.S. in Psychology.
The mental health field is booming, there will always be jobs available in it.

Having said that the jobs available are minimal compared to what you could have if you got a Master's in Psychology.

I was a Psychology major and changed after the first year. It is good if you are planning on going to a higher level; ie for a Masters or a PhD. Most jobs, where the focus is on what you've learned as a Psych major, require a PhD if you want to make a living off of it.
If you pair the Psych major with an Education major (or minor) you can usually teach in HS or below.

Most people do not graduate with the degree they started with. After studying it for a year, I also discovered that I didn't care for Psychology as much as I had thought. Give it a try and discuss possible future plans with your advisor. You can always change your major.

Funny you should ask. I have a 19 yr old son who is going to get this degree. (I live in Canada).

There are 2 ways you can get this degree here.
One is Bachelor of Psychology in the general Arts programme. Good I suppose if you want to go on and do some teaching at a later time.
Second is Bachelor of Science with a Psychology major. This gives you more of the science background which will opoen a few more doors for you in the area requiring Psychology.

In my mind the best bet is to become a school Psychologist. Great hours, vacations. and you are working for district school boards assisting students with the help of their parents.

My family physician suggested to my son that he become a Medical Physician and then specialize in Psychriatry (rather than Psychology). As a physician, you get to work on far more interesting cases, you are authorized to write prescriptions, and your pay is much better.

If you want to become a Clinical Psychologist and only use the Arts or Science degree programmes (versus Medicine) you really have to get a Grad degree (minimum of a Master's) to become a "real" psychologist and compete with the medical Psychiatrists.

Hope this helps. We have been going thru the same debate at our house.

Psychology is one of the most unused degrees. A lot of grocery store workers got a degree in psychology :)
If you actually want to become a psychologist/psychiatrist, then it would be useful. If not, I suggest finding something else.

It's a great "stepping-stone" degree to your eventual goal of Law School.
