i have been trying my hardest to practice the splits every day now for about two weeks. problem is, now that i do that, my hips knees and ankles crack A LOT! it's mildly painful, and it makes it hard for me to convince myself to go into my splits. any suggestions and possible "diagnosises" would be helpful. thanx!
P.S. i have already tried skipping a day. the problem didn't go away.

Us losers? Ok... We get it. You are rude. How are people supposed to know that you're a teenager.

Hey, the cracking is fairly normal. I'm with you on the fact that it hurts though! My mom(one of the top pediatricians in the U.S.) actually cracks my sister's(she's 7) toes for her every once in a while so that they don't crack while she's doing gymnastics(she's very high level for her age)
Probably the main thing would be to stretch out completely before practicing. try sitting in a straddle and reaching towards your toes. you can also do this in a hurdle stretch. try looking up some online... I know how tough it is, I'm a teen too, and I'm trying to do a lot of the dance/gymnastics stuff too. Except I do it atop a really big(like 6'5'' at the withers(back)), cantering draft horse! Anyways, Make sure you're taking it slow!
Good luck! If it's super painful, try calling(or emailing) your doctor

Well, the fluid in your joints is popping quite often I am guessing. That leaves the conclusion that the caps of your bones are slowly but surely wearing away allowing bone to touch bone...ouch! You should go to your doctor is the pain gets worse and see what the ol' doc has got to say. Be careful and cautious of how you are moving those joints. Best of luck.

Stretch well before trying the splits (or anything else, for that matter) and make sure your posture through the day is good. If you generally don't have any other problems with your joints, the popping is normal. Lots of dancers have joints that pop all the time (including myself.)

If it's painful, then you need to consult a doctor. Without examining you, we can't diagnose you. If you are a dancer, also consult with your teacher.

I would just hate for this to have been a serious problem that you ignore, that eventually harms you.

Good luck to you!

No, your bones are only cracking because your still growing. it happens to me alot. its just the air pockets in your joints that pop when you seperate them.

Don't ever do any activity that would jeopardize your health. Why don't you see an orthopedic surgeon and have this checked out before you hurt yourself?
