I am 2 months behind in my rent, due to losing my job. I can't pay the current months rent, and I know I'll fall further behind next month. Is it possible to talk with the landlord and ask to leave BEFORE they start a formal eviction? I do not have a lease, I rent month to month. Thank you!!!!

Yes, please, go make nice with your landlord. Where I live, I could have my tenants in court for eviction proceedings within 72 hours for non payment. 30 to 90 days for anything else, but non payment is the only thing that can get you kicked out within 30 days.

You can ask to leave before a formal eviction, but they'll still want their rent money you know.

It'll show up on your credit score, regardless, and will affect your getting another apartment in the future.

Talk to a credit counselor, and talk to the landlord ASAP (you should've done this 2 months ago when you knew your job was done)....

Without a lease, they'll just kick you out immediately (once paperwork is finished) since you're month to month..

most states on mo-mo still require 30 day notice, both parties. But if it's rented out sooner your landlord may forgive a part of the month if you ask
