-- When baby is doing well on a number of solid foods and shows no signs of allergies
-- 100% juice only
-- Water it down half juice, half water
-- Pear and white grape juice are reportedly easier to digest than some others
-- Should be served in a cup rather than bottle, due to high sugar content and risk of baby bottle tooth decay
-- I never worried too much about whether it was "baby juice" brands or "regular" juice, as long as it was 100% juice
-- No more than 4-6 oz. of juice (8-12 oz. watered down) daily; juice is considered empty calories for infants who need to eat nutrient-rich foods

Once they've had solid foods you can start mixing juice and water (equal parts of each) and offering it to the baby. The best thing to do is start off offering single fruit juices, like apple or white grape. The Gerber juices are a waste of money unless you use them for the diaper bag. It's healthy, and great if you think the baby isn't getting quite enough liquid. I know that my baby didn't take to the juice right away, but now she loves it! (PS We offered it at 4 months and she was about 5 months when she started drinking it.)

Look at the list of ingredients. You'll only want juice that is 100% juice. If any of the ingredients is "high fructose corn syrup" then stay away.

Babies under 6 months should have no juice, and after that give it sparingly. Dentists actually call apple juice "cavity juice" because its so bad for teeth. Also, it has no nutritional value, just empty calories.

Juicy juice isnt all that good for babies......I suggest buying apple juice and diluted it half and half. When you get into all the different types juices that can mess with your babies bowels, (give them runny bowels and cause rashes) keep it simple and stick to one type of juice for your baby. Trust me it comes from raising three girls myself.

I am no pediatrician, I am only speaking from experience, but my children were 3 when I gave them Juicy Juice. I would give them one juice box with their lunch.

Another mother passed on this site to me and I find it helpful:

My twin boys are 8 mos old and I only give them really watered down 100% pear or apple juice every once in a while.

They recommend you start giving your baby juice at about 4 months of age. The best is any that is 100% juice, sugar free of course. You can dilute it by adding a little more water if you still feel it's too sweet. My kids weren't/aren't that fond of juice so they drink alot of water. But definitely stick to only 100%.

I just wanted to say don't forget to make drinking water a big part of your baby's lifestyle. Too many people nowadays grew up on juice and drink tons of it, especially sugary crap. Best to teach them early that water is great and vital.

We're big on water. My son gets juice on special occations only. Water is too important for good health.

If you want to give your baby a treat, give fresh (not jarred) fruit. It's sweet and it has good enzymes and fiber.
