A friend of mine told me the majority of hand lotions contain some type of alcohol that dries out your hands. I'm ridiculous about how often I use hand lotion and I was wondering if anyone else heard of this? Are there any brands you would recommend?? I don't have dry hands at all but I hate when my hands aren't completely moisturized (not greasy, just mosturized). Also, I need shampoo and conditioner advice. I have very thin hair and I'm prone to getting split ends and have no idea why. I've tried so many shampoos (pantene, back to basics, beadhead, rusk, etc.) and all of them seem to either leave my hair dry and knotty or they leave it incredibly greasy looking! help???

Yes! Most lotions on the market contain MINERAL OIL! The molecular structure is too large to penetrate the pores of your skin, sitting on the top layer like saran wrap. This causes dirt and debris to collect on your skin, causing irritation and dryness. Products that contain mineral oil get wiped off over time and have little to no benefit. This is why you find yourself reapplying your lotion three times a day. You need a pure water based product to help with your sensitive skin. Water based products will penetrate the dermis and deeply condition and hydrate your skin. Arbonne has a GREAT hand cream to help with your specific need made with Aloe (a pure moisturizer), Liposomes, phospholipids, alpha hydroxy acids, antioxidant vitamins A, C and E. Their products are botanically based and beneficial for all skin types. They formulate their products without alcohol, wax, dyes, chemicals, fragrances, mineral oil, etc. which strip your skins acid mantel (its protective layer) and causes irritation and dryness.

Same with shampoo and conditioner. Most have a fabulous smell but they have no long term benefits because of these harmful ingredients. Arbonne has a great self adjusting daily shampoo and conditioner are formulated with natural tree oil. Native to Australia, tea tree oil is known as “The wonder from down under.” :-) It's botanically based, pure, and safe with key ingredients including nanospheres, nettle, hops, sage and thyme extracts, vitamins A, C, E. This will keep your hair from looking and feeling greasy as well as keep it from over drying.

If you're open to trying a free sample, I'll be happy to send you one.

Hair conditioner: Paul Mitchell "The Conditioner." It's a leave in conditioner. Should help you a great deal. My hairdresser is always shocked at how healthy my hair is because it's long and I color it. Investing in the conditioner is much more impt than the shampoo. You also might be getting split ends because you're not trimming it often enough, and/or not brushing/combing it with care. Note: the end of your hair will always be the most unhealthy because it is the oldest. You have to treat it with more care than the rest of your hair. When applying conditioner, make sure to cover all the ends of your hair. When shampooing, only do so every other day, your scalp and hair need the moisturizing.

Hand lotion: my auntie told me that Vaseline brand lotion is the best, says consumer reports, although I don't remember which type of lotion that was.

Murad has some of the best lotion I've ever used. And since it's a high quality product, a little goes a long way, but it's never greasy. Available online or in some skin care salons. $75 a tube.

Best shampoo and conditioner I've ever used is Matrix Biolage. Never use Pantene! THAT is what causing your hair to split! It's some of the harshest stuff on the market. They just have a good marketing campaign.

Hand lotion: Olay's Moisturizing Therapy Quench Concentrate. THE best I have EVER tried.

As for hair, there are only 4 types of shampoos in the world.

1) Deep Cleansing Shampoos(Also known as Volumizing, Clarifying, Balancing, Oil Control, and Thickening.)

These shampoos are designed to get gunk off your hair and scalp. They typically contain slightly higher levels of detergents so they foam and clean better. They include the examples above as well as salon products like Paul Mitchell Shampoo 2. and Frederic Fekkai’s Full Volume.

2) Conditioning Shampoos(Aka Moisturizing, 2 in 1, Smoothing, Anti-frizz, Strengthening, Color Care, Straightening, and Hydrating)

This kind of formula is all about leaving a moisturizing agent, like a silicone or Polyquaternium 10, on the hair to smooth it. It’s very good for dry hair, especially if you color treat or heat style but it can weigh down fine hair. Good examples of this type includes most of the Pantene formulas and some products from the L’Oreal Vive collection and Dove ProCare.

3) Baby Shampoos(Aka Kids shampoo, and Tear-free)

Johnson’s Baby Shampoo is the classic example but this category also includes Touch Of An Angel and The Little Bath. These are milder, lower foaming surfactant formulas that are designed not to sting or burn your eyes. They’re better for babies but they don’t clean hair as well.

4) Anti-Dandruff Shampoos (Aka Anti-itch, Flake Control, and Dry Scalp)

Head and Shoulders is the leading dandruff product; other examples include Nizoral and Redken Dandruff Control . These are medicated shampoos that contain a drug ingredient that controls itching and flaking. In the United States these are considered to be Over-the-Counter (OTC) Drugs.

You want #1. Any of the ones in #1 are fine, but I like Tresemme or Pantene. Stick to one, and only one, or else your hair will get confused and become overly dry or oily.

Also, don't spread conditioner on your scalp, but ONLY on your ends/middle of your hair, and get those split ends trimmed ASAP or else they will split even further and you'll have to chop the whole lot off (true story, happened to me once and never again).

for hand lotion you could try bath and body works products they are really awesome and smell beautiful. As far as hair shampoos and conditioner goes. Firstly the trick to conditioner is apply it only on the ends not on your scalp ever! especially if you have fine hair. Technically you should wash your hair every other day but if you are washing it everyday try to use a mild shampoo the clear ones are mild. Another reason for getting split ends is over drying your hair, if your using blow dryers and straightening irons stop for a while and see the results. For me the best shampoo is Garnier for fine hair, or you could try Loreal Elvive just try to use the least possible chemical in your hair..give it a try hope it helps..take care..
