Should the US be an empire? Why or why not?

we have military bases in over 50 countries, propping up and supporting govts. that agree to do business with corporate america on america's terms.

in many of those countries, the govts. have the support of their people. in many countries, they don't. In the countries that don't, the people hold the usa at least partially responsible for their oppression and poverty.

We're not out there to help people. We're there to 'protect u.s. interests abroad', i.e. enforcing those business agreements for corp. america.

Because New York State is the Empire, that's why. We're certainly not going to change "The Melting Pot" nor the history books just to satisfy a country. It started here and it will end here.

Vote for Hillary. After her first term, the Bush or Clinton family will have ran America for 24 years, almost 30 if she wins twice. Then you'll have your empire.

No more so that any other nation. France has more non-continental possesions than we do, and I might be mistaken (appologies if I'm wrong), but, I believe the UK still has more than the US. Aside from that, we are no more an empire than Russia, China, or Venezuela

Of course it is. Manifest destiny spread our country from 13 colonies to forty eight states. Then we conquered Hawaii and made them a state. Alaska was just bought from the Russians who had stole from the Canadians and then sold it to us. American Samoa was acquired somehow, Puerto Rico might as well be a state. The next state will either be Mexico or Saudi Arabia.

It isn't.
It is used as an insult by anti-Americans.

If we wanted to, we could take over any country.

We haven't.

Thus, the U.S. is not an empire.
