-Europe was ahead in terms of imperialism. the countries they took over provided natural resources and new markets for trade.
Europe was pretty thoroughly industrialized by 1914, as well.
Lastly, Europe had a pretty steady buildup and advancement of weapons up to 1914 and the start of World War I

The Industrial Revolution, competition, and diplomacy among each other's desires. European armies were better armed, there was a drive to out-colonize one another, and treaties and agreements kept them from fighting among themselves.
