what would you think is the most ignorant attitude you've ever encountered?

I think the one that fries me the most is the attitude that whatever discipline a person rides is the best & the only way to ride.

whether you ride dressage, are a jumper, a barrel racer, a team penner, whatever, horses are horses & you should appreciate the different styles of riding for themselves!!

I've got to agree very much with silvaspur. As a farrier you wouldn't believe the flat out ignorance of some people who've owned horses for years. Clients who are starving horses. Clients who are feeding them to death and repeated founder. Clients who call you out once a year only when the horse is dead lame and expect you to magically cure them so they can start riding. A man trying to sell a horse who could barely walk and he didn't even know it was lame! He kept telling us to hop on and ride him. The horse could get loose so the mans solution was to lock him in the barn for 3 or 4 weeks at a time eating straight corn and crap hay, then to let him out in knee high pasture to graze for a whole day before going back into the barn a few more weeks. Another had a filly with contracted tendon, she just thought I could trim the heels lower and fix it. I kept explaining what was going on and telling her she needed a vets opinion and she kept asking if she "really" needed a vet. She didn't want to spend the money. It amazes me. I love the work but some of the people make me insane. I'll stop now before I reall start ranting.

There are many, many different levels of ignorance I have encountered, but the one that ticks me off the most are the ones who think the old cowboy way of beating the horse until it does what you want it to do is the way to go. They end up loosing their spirit as horses and think of themselves as only machines. It can take years for the horses to realize they can be themselves without being beaten.

I'm a equine vet and get frustrated with the horse owners who won't listen to me when I say that their horse has a pulled muscle or a lameness of any sort and sit there and drug their horses after I leave and take them to a barrel racing or roping competition and them proceed to call me at 3 in the morning because their horses leg or foot gave out and they think I need to come out and set it back in place or give their horse medicine and wrap their leg.
I didn't go to college for 8 years and spend thousands of dollars to get a degree just to tell ignorant people that their horse is going down for the fun of it. If they can't take my advice- then don't bother calling me at 3 in the morning crying because their beloved Precious is down and can't get back up.

I just hate when people dont show excessive love towards their horses, even in small ways it bothers me-- when they dont pet them while they are standing with them, kiss their noses, talk to them... i dont know it's just that i LOVE my horse to death and i never see people connect with their horses like i do. It really bothers me! Just thinking about him right now as im typing this makes me miss him and im almost tempted to drive out to the barn haha.
