Capitalism is an economic model, where property is owned by the individual (and/or corporations), and where markets are regulated as a consequence of commercial interactions between producers and consumer.

Democracy is a political model, based on the concept of might-makes-right majority rule. If a majority of people vote for a particular result, they can enforce that result on the minority.

One has nothing to do with the other. You can have a democratic communism, just as easily as you can have a fascist tyrrany that uses a capitolist economic model.

I'm sorry I haven't read Gaudiani's work but would like to make a comment.

Do you realise that democracy and capitalism are simplistic concepts. These are frequently used to deal with complex situations, like bringing order to society.

Well democracy has its merits, but capitalism as we are seeing more and more proof has already failed. The Earth, our home is dying. No one can really expect we can continue on our present course.

Turn a blind eye if you must, but consider those people alive in 2200 or even 3000. They will not know the wonder of the 1000's of animal species that have been wiped off the face of the earth already. Productive land is declining everyday. Pollution is in a very real sense affecting every system. (I am a qualified social ecologist). Technology will NOT solve this as politicians claim.

What should we do? Live sustainably. Adjust. Think about the present And the future.

People are just too stupid to believe.
