Yes, they are completely ignoring the Constitution (and often specific federal laws), both of which are violations of the oath of office.

See by Yahoo blog entry below for a summary of such activity.

you are mistaking humans rights and civil rights and legal rights. this situation is not new. federal prisoners have reduced rights, non-citizens have reduced rights, and even military personnel have different rights compared to civilians who are citizens. However, all of us should have the same human rights. In any case, you'll find that these rights depend on the subject, the authority, a country's security status (ie. martial law) and even the location which is why Guantanamo in Cuba is where many of these people are being held without a formal charge as "prisoners of war"

In my opinion, our nation is not perfect, but it's the closest there is. Part of how we got here is by dealing with unpleasant issues like this. What makes us different is that it is even up for debate without the threat of getting you pinched or killed for simply talking about it. It's important to remeber that this kind of thing is not simply in the past. It's really just around the corner.

your initial statement is inaccurate and inflammatory. First get your facts straight, then you can present some sort of sensical argument for it. Until then, you're just like the rest of the people around here talking about things like they understand when they only know just enough to be dangerous.

Thanks for bringing this up, I agree.
It's a fact that during periods of fear of the public, the Government continually absorbs citizen's rights, here are a few other examples:
The Palmer raids during the Red Scare
The Japanese Internment Camps
The USA PATRIOT act
The Alien and Sedation Acts
And many more.
To quote Benjamin Franklin
"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security"
How Quickly we forget...
And to you people saying "Uhhhh.. I got nothing to hid" are only ignorant and don't understand the constitution. Our country was founded on the idea of escaping tyranny and over-reaching government. How dare you make this type of claims. I'm not left or right leaning, I believe in Classic Liberalism and what America was meant to be, and that's not Britain.

First of all, what civil rights, and please name at least one person affected directly from said "taking of civil rights".

Second of all, how can you play this card when you are (and I'm guessing) most likely a member of the left, who in my experiences, are the same people calling to ban smoking, trans-fats, "bad words", etc.? How about this California official calling for the banning of all incandescent lighs? Who are you to say wat lights I can and can't burn in my house? You cannot pick and choose your battles when you decide to fight for rights or the lack thereof.

The only people who have lost civil rights or liberties are terrorists.
(And terrorists have no civil rights or liberties to begin with.)
If you don't want to be wiretapped, don't call your terrorist friends. Instead, just write them a letter.

I am all for whatever it takes to eradicate Terrorists. Since I have nothing to hide and my phone calls would be very boring......go ahead and do what needs to be done.

The problem is we still don't really know who the terrorists are, where they are, or even "what a terrorist is".
