As a mystery writer, my favorite theme is the so called "locked room" mystery that was perfected by Poe in Murders on the Rue Morgue. A murder occurs inside a seemingly locked room with no escape and yet no murderer is found inside. Very challenging to work out. I am working on a locked room scene in my new book right now.

The story "Holes" is an enjoyable story,
and there are themes in it that talk of the importance of keeping your promise, having friends and so on.

Medieval fantasy. More specifically, I like fantasy set in a medievalized world. I don't like fantasy set in the real medieval world; although oddly I like stories set in the real medieval world with no added elements of fantasy. Even more specifically, and perhaps the reason I like both of those, is that I like medieval warfare. I'm not sure why; I guess that I have a romanticized view of what combat was like back then.

I write romantic comedies and I like my hero and heroine to be very unaware that they are the ones for each other until late into the story. Usually they are friends, thinking their relationship is platonic. Sometimes they are enemies and have no idea this is their ideal mate.

Personally I like it when:
nothing tragic or sad happens (AKA no one dies)
it is in a small town with colorful characters,
nothing action packed happens
the story plot is inspiring
the characters have weird names that suit their personalities well (I hate reading about Marys and Joes)

Post-apocalyptic.
Don't ask me why. I write better storylines when the world I live in has been destroyed by a cosmic event or something involving a higher power.
