I tried closing msn messenger down and disconnecting and then logging on again - did not work
why is this happening?

it may be a firewall???
Whatever firewall you're using, try going into the options and you should be able to see what programs are blocked. If messenger is in that list, you can unblock it.
If thats not it, then I don't know, sorry.

Because it hates you! Sorry I've always wanted to say that. My friends does that it has to do with her internet connection. Try checking your cables to make sure there all properly plugged in.

switch to use SKYPE. much better sound and video quality
