As a past high school and college cheerleader, and current coach, I can tell you that I have had my bouts with the dangers involved in cheerleading....particularly with competition.

It is up to the coach to teach proper form and technique, but accidents can still happen. Luckily, we haven't had any of these during my tenure as coach. The ensurance of Proper spotting and teamwork/trust is a major part of my success in this area. We stress safety over getting the stunt up. If my girls feel as though they don't have control during the routine....we don't stunt ....PERIOD! We don't try to make-up for a lost footing or inbalance...we just don't stunt.

Competition cheering is for athletic girls with the drive and motivation to work hard as a unit. Anytime some one is hurt the entire squad feels a responsibility.

I don't have the statistics for the "most dangerous" , but I must say that you can't be weak of heart to be involved in competition cheer squads.

1. Its not really considered a sport.
2. The order of most dangerous sports is: Hockey, Football, Lacross, Basketball.

Many people may not think hockey is No. 1 but, there had been more deaths in hockey games than any other sport.
