I have an odd accent. I'm Italian-American, but have lived in the Southern U.S. long enough to have picked up that accent, too. So I talk like a Southern-fried Tony Soprano.

I do, and very strong by the way!!! My first language is spanish (Nicaragua) and I came to the US 2 years ago. When I got here, I didn't know a word but I still went to school and graduated in the TOP 5% of the class, now im in college, got a job, and im doing pretty good. So, I know its hard and frustating sometimes (when people say what? every 3 words you say) but trust me, you will be amazed of how confident you are gonna feel after a while. So, good luck and don't dive up!!!

That is a very interesting question and I think it is a matter of perspective. My next door neighbor is from England and I asked him if he thought I had an accent and he said yes. Having grown up in Southern California, I do not perceive myself to have an accent, but don't tell that to someone from New York or Texas.

Yes, I've got an Ossetian/Russian accent. Those are both my native languages. I've studied English starting when I was so young even because my mum was an English teacher, but I still cannot speak English perfectly.
I do, however, speak German nearly accentlessly; I can nearly speak it like a native German. I don't know why English should be so much different, but that's how it is...

Alors, je parle anglais, mais, quand je parle français, j'ai un accent parce que ma prémiére langue est anglais. Les Quebecoise sont trés sympathique et amiable. J'adore leurs.
Also, I can fake an English or an Aussie accent very well, In fact, I've even met the odd Brit or Aussie who couldn't tell. I can do accents like Russian or Western European reasonably well. I wanted to be an actress and I have been practising since I was a kid. I still maintain my abilities because one never knows when acting like a foreigner will come in handy - and believe me, it does.

Everyone has an accent, because all an accent is is to compare how language sounds compared to how you speak it. I'm from California, and people from the West Coast seem to think everyone else has accents. That's funny to me. If people from CA travel to NYC, we have west coast accents, just like we think New Yorkers have east coast accents!

I was born at home in New Hampshire to Swedish parents. So, I have a mix of the North East, and the swedish accent. Most people think I'm from NYC, because I'm trying to let go of the Swedish part. LOL. OH WELL. ~~~~~~~~`
