paternity is not an issue, the father is on the birth certificate and is not challenging paternity, at least not at the moment!

If the parents were not married at the time of the birth...you will need to establish paternity...you can do this thru your State Attorney General's Office...they can suponea him in a court of law if u can provide enough evidence to warrant suspicion that he may indeed be the father of this child

A friend just went through this, the state will help you establish paternity, if he contests. It doesn't matter how many hours a week he works or how much money he earns, a judge will decide how much he has to pay depending on the number of children, your rent and utilities and how much you earn. He will have to either work more or get a better job, plain and simple. If he doesn't meet that he will have interest and fees attached and will also have to pay court costs, the number will keep growing until he pays. If he never pays, he goes to jail. Good luck.

Get yourself to a place called Child Support Enforcement Agency. It is part of the system. They are wonderful and will even help you sue the other parent to start support. Not to mention that they then enforce payment orders by revoking drivers licenses. If you have food stamps it is required that you see a councilor at CSE.

I use to live in Florida and all of my sons were born there. With my first son, who is now 16, I applied for food stamps, medicaid and afdc. When I applied for the cash assistance I had to agree to comply with child support. I did, they did a paternity test it came back 99.98%, He then was court ordered to pay childsupport.
So when you go to apply for afdc (cash assistance) you have to comply with child support and they (the state and childsupport) take it over from there. The absent parent also had to pay for the paternity test and make payments to repay the afdc that i recieved for his son.

Go to the department of family and children services and request their assistance. They will initiate whatever paperwork is necessary to take the child's father to court and set up some amount he will have to pay probably to the State to reimburse them for the amount they are giving you or else they will increase what you are getting but they will still ensure that it is paid.

you cannot receive childsupport if you receive state assistance. what happens is that you can take your baby's father or ex husband for childsupport but as long as your receiving assistance you will not receive the money. because the state is taking care of you and you children they keep the money. Once you get stop receiving assitance the money will automatically come to you. It's not so bad and in my opinion you should do it.. I Did! and as soon as i got off welfare i started receiving the checks...but you can't receive both....

how the child got here or the reasons they are on welfare is a moot point.
she would not be on welfare (wouldnt qualify) if she was getting support. the state and federal government finally understands this, and passed stronger laws.
the state and federal gov is TIRED of people not paying for their children.
the state will go after him worse then the IRS for their money back... and he is the one who owes it to them, for supporting the child he isnt. they file the papers and obtain the court order faster then an attorney could.
child support today is based upon BOTH parents incomes, and if one parent isnt working, the court calculates an income for them (if skilled, then what they are capable of earning- if not skilled worker, then min wage). they calculate BOTH incomes, number of children in the case and come up with the child support amount.
if the child is young, daycare expenses may be ordered, as well as medical insurance costs.

You should first take the step and try and get off welfare then look into child support issues unless you are severely disabled and are not able to take that step.

you don't get both... you either get the welfare or the child support... if you get state aid, they take his money, so they get paid back what they give you...
